How to Write a Novel?
Talent is talent and is not a hybrid seed that can be sown into any ground to produce a whole farm of talent. They say writers are not born in farms, nor are they mould in caskets, a writer is a born writer. But help, advice and guidelines are some magic pills that can dramatically transform a novice into a spellbinding writer. Well this article is just the same dose that you require to become a novel writer.
Always start with a rough write-up of the content, outlining the major chapters and aspects and then in the end when compile the matter and shape it in the form of a novel.
To begin with a novel, start with a vision. Whether a fiction or a sci-fi or an account of anything, everything needs to have a basic objective. Try revolving your story around that plot. You can try an occasional move-around but an over use of it can mislead the story and confuse the readers utterly which you don’t want in any case.
Readers want characters that are real and not the theoretical looks-good-feels-good stuff. You have to have a hero in any case but try not to portray him as a perfect human being, always following the path of righteousness, fighting against all odds and saving all humanity from evils. Every human being has his share of virtues and vices. And the same way your villain can not be an all black man because he is also a human being after all. And in this modern era of story writing we have characters that are both heroes and villains, some more villains than they are heroes. So plan your main characters carefully so that they find a place in your reader’s mind.
A novel can not be created out of two or three characters. Like movies, novels also have a whole crew of supporting cast. Plan the friends, relatives, neighbors and other such supporting cast carefully. Merchant of Venice could not have been Merchant of Venice without Lorenzo, Gratiano, Salario and Salanio.
Always use a lucid, easy going and balanced language that users understand easily. A high dose of Latin or French in English novels make it rich but at the cost of its understandability. Try making the chapters incomplete, because complete chapters do not make the user turn up the pages eagerly to find what happens next. A constantly, fast moving plot is something which adheres the readers to the story.
So, in all writing novel is writing your heart out. A brisk paced story focusing on the objective and consisting of balanced and justified characters is the one that grabs the maximum attention of the readers. In the end, re-write the work and tell your friends to outline the major positive and negative aspects of the novel and then incorporate the changes accordingly.
